I was wondering about what gear people use to record direct into their interface (for quiet recording and modelling plugins etc).
If you could only have one 1U preamp to go into the line in, what would you pick?
Just curious because I wouldn't mind freeing up my front input and it may be fun to experiment.
What preamp for recording into interface?

Tonex plugin when I'm messing around, It's so good.
Kemper is just as good, sometimes better with the right profiles. But it means setting up hardware which I usually can't be bothered with.

Re: What preamp for recording into interface?
I have a couple of the archetype plugins I got on sale which I really like. I seem to practice best Infront of my PC, maybe because that's how I learnt the guitar in the beginning.
I really enjoy just being able to plug in and get going - it's always set up.
I run directly into the scarlet on the INST setting and it's great, I was just curious about how I might free up the front inputs by using a line in on the back instead. I wonder if it'd sound better with a different preamp.

Neural DSP Archetype plugins, I have Rabea, Tim Henson, and Gojira.
Hardware wise I have the UA Enigmatic for guitar and a cheap Zoom thing for bass

How can I be sure I'm here?
The pills that I've been taking confuse me...

A DI is probably all you’d really need. Otherwise the Black Lion Auteur is a really nice mic pre/DIZaulkin wrote: ↑Sat Apr 12, 2025 6:26 pm I have a couple of the archetype plugins I got on sale which I really like. Thank you. A DI will do the trick I think, and I have a 1U phantom power unit to power it and complete my rack, yay.bender wrote: ↑Sun Apr 13, 2025 4:37 pmA DI is probably all you’d really need.
