Denny Dias has a such a wonderfully idiosyncratic style, it boggles my mind how he learned to phrase like that.

Baxter was no slouch either, those bits on My Old School are just so good!

Swapping guitars several times mid solo without dropping a note is impressive.
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

Sounding very hot bro! 😎👍

We coverd My Old School, was one of my faves to play. Alive in America is prolly my favorite Dan album, great songs and crazy tight.

What's the theory at work here? All those notes that sound like they shouldn't work but do?

The only reason I could learn that solo was this:

Lots of isolated tracks floating around YouTube, great for learning stuff!

Lots of chromatic in between notes connecting the good ones. Denny Dias definitely had some bebop influences.

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Now do "King of the World". For me that's the track he really lifts off on.

Having listened to that I am pretty sure most of those notes are missing from my guitar.

That's what I was alluding to. My guitar's notes are all black and white but these ones are in colour.
