I preferred the Behringer but I have ageing guitarist ears that like more top end to compensate for the fact that I've lost top end in my hearing. I have an SM57 and it always sounds a bit flat to me. I would prefer a bit more midrange from it. I'm gonna try mic'ing my guitar up with a condenser at practice tonight.

Try an E906, pisses all over an SM57 IMO!

Yeah I've used the E906 in the past and liked it. It's just that I'm a Shure dealer (= wholesale prices) and not a Sennheiser dealer. 😉

Yeah, I have the SM57 now, not sure if I hear enough of a difference to bother - gonna try my other mic which I love for recording but is a LDC so might have too much bleed live but gonna see how it goes. Otherwise I'll probably stick to the '57 just because I already have one. My LDC is a cheap one I originally bought for vocal recording but it sucked, I was really disappointed in it, until I tried it for recording guitar amps, where it turned out to be brilliant.

You're welcome to your opinion of course, but when you owned the E906 did you also own a Shure, and give them a decent comparison?

I have both a Sennheiser e935 and a Shure SM58A in my gig bag, and its the Shure that is on the mic stand every gig. Louder, clearer, just better. No pissing involved.

Have used both when recording with my old band, SM57 is quite average in comparison!

To be fair, a Beta 58a pisses all over a 57, so the sennheiser would be fully showered. Comparisons need to be the same models.

How do you like them orangeapples?
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Also an e945 would be a better comparison to try against an SM58, an e935 isn't in the same league.

actually an 935 is Sennheiser's direct competitor to the SM58. And a 935 is pretty similar sounding to a 945.

I don't know why people are so strong on the idea that dynamic mics are the way to go on guitars. I very much like LDC's on guitar amps.

Yeah well as I say my LDC sounds way better than my 57 for recording, but I chickened out of using it at practice tonight. Have you used an LDC on your guitar live at all?

I’ve come back around to the humble SM57, I like it blended with a condenser for some room/air as well. On its own it can be a bit narrow sounding but it does work in an overall live mix just fine.
The Behringer did sound brighter/clearer in this comparison so if we are just comparing the 2 I’d probably vote Behringer.
