Polkadot sideways.

Post by Slowy »

I have two guitars with no side dots and I find it impossible to play them with any accuracy, which is a pity because I love playing both of them.

So, I'm installing side dots. To my mind, it seems straightforward but I've never done it and I'm old and wise enough to know how much I don't know.

So please help me with tips, tricks, best glue, best material; I'd prefer cream or even a bit darker. Both guitars are old and delightfully worn so no neon white.

Thanks. :D

That’ll learn me, went to google a picture of some twink to suggest that as an option. But sometime between ‘80s high school and now that has changed meaning from whiteout, to slim young gay man. Neither options are serious suggestions for your side dots sorry, but at least I learned something today!

Just had a thought; drill hole, fill with powdered material of choice. Soak with superglue.

As an alternative to buying a meter of rod when I need 10mm.

Just asking.

Wouldn't have worked. He already knows I started after high school and was never so desperate that I need resort to Twink.

Johnson's cotton buds have whitish paper sticks. You can colour these to your liking then dip in superglue to make them hard.

Alternatively, buy the bamboo cottonbuds from the warehouse if a yellowish finish is acceptable to you.

Oh, and Stewmac is in the USA btw

The rest is self explanatory I hope

I just cut one (using my handy dandy Strummers scalpel).
I'll glue and sand it because it doesn't cut clean.
Interestingly, under 10x magnification, I wonder it it's real or fabricated.
Time to dig out the microscope.

Go to Africa
Kill a animal with a horn
Bring the horn back to an imperialist colony
Dry the horn
Drill holes in the top side of the guitar neck at places that indicate places worth remembering
Whittle the horn to fit the holes
Melt a horse
Cover whittled horn pieces with melted horse
Insert whittled horn into holes
Difference is an accident of birth and it should therefore never be the source of hatred or conflict

Disclaimer: I do not make my side dots from what I just suggested to you. Mine are made from proper cow bone from Pack and Safe. Chewed on for jonks by dog then cut into pieces for degreasing process. Then turned into dots, nuts, saddles and logos.

This is how real men do it.
