Nitro spraying advice

Hi, not nitro related but polyurethane related.

After spraying the gloss colour coat, do I need to spray a clear coat, please?

Practicing my nitro spraying by making the girls some signs for their bedrooms. My attempt at a sparkle finish for Imogen went straight to the bin. Isobel's metallic purple sign suffered with a few stray sparkles making their way into the clear coat. Also sanded through on one edge. Other than that, it's a perfect mirror finish. I left this one without grain filler so it has a little texture already, and I suspect it'll shrink into the grain with time.

In progress is Imogen's second attempt in what was meant to be Ocean Turquoise Metallic, but is likely a fraction more green than intended.

Anyone got hint for spraying nitro in the cold? Unusually cool in Northland this year, sitting around lows of 5 for the past six weeks. I can only spray in the evenings, and have been really struggling to get it coming out smoothly. Have tried warming the jar and thinning a little more than usual (up from my usual 30% acetone to even above 50%).

My bronchiectasis-ridden children would appreciate our home heating being prioritised for nitro spraying.

Unfortunately, this is the reality in NZ . In the Waikato the humidity is the killer.

In short, spray in summer/autumn. Build in between?

This guy seems to break a lot of the nitro spraying rules (don't angle the gun, lots of thin coats, consistent spraying distance). Yet he gets fantastic finishes. Must have his recipe and gun settings absolutely dialled in.

Really happy with latest outcome. Doing a headstock/body combo. Had a clusterfuck earlier in the process which has left some issues with the headstock. But sanded it to a perfect mirror polish today. The nitro is rock hard and incredibly fragile.

Body has a couple of flecks of dust in the clear-coat that I'm gonna sand back, then obviously will need a few more coats. Really hopeful that this one can be close to perfect.

Don't worry Bruce. It's a refinish of a pretty old and well-worn guitar. The nitro will be sunjec to some mild-moderate abuse to match the rest of the instrument.
