Pickguard for Jansen bass project

Post by StrummersOfThunder »

So a long time ago I picked up a Kauri body 60s beat bass (neck and body)
Grant has done the frets and Rob has sprayed it some sort of lobster genital colour
IT has previously been routed for p bass pickups which Is an ugly route but will be ok when covered with a guard.
Ive slowly collected the hard wear needed for it
Now I just need a pickguard. Ive decided on tort.

Ive attached a quick mockup of the sort of guard colour and shape I think ill do.

Any tips for cutting an exact shape (outer and pickup holes etc) for a pickguard?
Even better, anyone got the time and inclination?

Cheers

Have now watched a few you tube videos and I remember now the template and router process. So I guess its design on computer then print out some sort of design to cut a template from and go from there.

You could just use a sheet of paper on the body, draw the outline you want, cut out, glue to a bit of mdf and cut out the template with a jigsaw and sand smooth, then use that as your template with a flush cut router bit :)

Yeah, this. A lot of work for a one off pickguard, but is the best way to prevent swearing.
