What kind of paint

Post by werdna »

A year or so ago I bought a partscaster from the forum. It used to belong to first I think Oleg and then Keon. It's a TV yellow colour. It's been a great guitar. I want to repaint it. I will paint over the existing paint. If it's nitro, I'll put nitro over. If it's poly of some kind, I'll put poly on.

How do I figure out what kind of paint it is please?

Can of freeze and a hairdryer. If it doesn't crack, it's not Nitro?

Seriously, no idea; that's all I've got.

Rub some acetone in a spot that wont show (in a cavity or under pickguard etc.), nitro will melt and poly wont react.

Synthetic will lift cellulose. Or cellulose will lift synthetic. Can't remember.

Hope that helps. ;-)
