assembly and relic just for fun

Post by Lawrence »

so Im not really ibto the relic thing - seems a terrible thing to do to a nice guitar. But...No22 has taken so long to finish i wanted a quick project. Heres the outcome of a bargain basement assembly

Paulownia unfinished body $32.00US
unfinished Paddle neck $34.00US
Trem (relic style steel) $54.00US
Pickups Neodymium Noise free $34.00US each
Tuners....had these in stock
Wiring harness $22.00US
Knobs and Pickguard $15.00US
plus a can of white and a can of Laquer

Maybe total Cost $450.00NZ.

I may have overdone the checking - used a air can and a hair dryer, didnt realise it would increase over aday or so....
Plays and sounds great.....and was fun

I have a spare Strat neck, if you ever want to flick it on I’d be keen on the body :-)

pretty good...the Body was not a Guitar fetish product, rather one of their "factory buyouts" where they buy up excess stock from various manufactures. The neck socket fit very well but the curve of the end of the neck was deeper than the curve on the neck itself. There's about 2 mm in the centre that's not touching. The Pickguard needed a tiny bit of sanding on the top of the neck socket, and the Trem cavity rout on the top was about 1mm to short for the Trem. Easy fix. All in all , given the budget price, everything went together easy.
..and Im serious when I say it plays well...I rolled the board edges a bit and did a quick level...Ive got 1 spot to refine where its choking a little on a bend but that can wait till Im bored again...

Just had a look at Guitar Fetish. I didn't realise how many more guitars I needed!
Strat with gold foils, Tele with humbuckers.....
Great prices. Or they will be when the true value of the Trumpdollar is revealed.

Lawrence, did you use spray can Nitro for the finish?
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

The white was an enamel...the lacquer was ....well lacquer - I didn't bother reading the detail on the can It certainly responded to the Heat/Chill like nitro....

...and the GF pickups are pretty good. I do want to do something with the Gold Foils......

The Slick guitars are apparently quite decent too, I'm a big fan of their pickups, the mean 90s especially!
