number 22 gets injured

Post by Lawrence »

I have to share this .....if only to get some of the angst, sadness and anger out.

When oiling my gats I often choose a time when the sun is shining hard on our garage. I open the garage door and hang the guitar from a hook looped into the door itself. It helps with inital drying and controling the smell.
Last night I got home from work a bit earlier than usual...the early evening sun was beating down on the garage. I whipped out my oil and applied coat number 7, then hung no22 from the centre of the door as per usual.

About an hour later my dear wife comes home and starts her evening routines. Walking past the internal door to the garage and seeing out the corner of her eye that the door was still up she hit the button to close it.

From the lounge I hear her scream....she had heard the sound of No22 hitting the ground. By the time I got there the gat was face down on the rough concrete driveway having hit body first then come off the hook as the door closed. The door its self missed.

I now have to take the finish back to bare wood...maybe reshape one edge that has a dent.

..oh well...

Doh, hang in there Lawrence.

The bright side is you have the tools and expertise to bring it back exactly as you want.

Most of us have to get someone else to repair it with all the potential disappointment that entails.

Bummer, consider a special relic?
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

Have done this exact thing! Ended up being a relic!

Does the door not have a simple mechanism to disable it / disconnect the chain?

yes - hindsight is a wonderful thing. Next time Ill remove the remote that sits in the holder by the inside door.

Hmm. I'd be tempted to put a slide bolt on or something to make real sure that door isn't moving.

If I ever tried to build a guitar, I'm pretty sure concrete rash would be the least of the issues...
They keep telling me tone is in the fingers, but I have yet to see a "look at my fingers" thread.

:( :eh:
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.
