Re: Sunburst Tele refinish
I put that Tele together about 9 years ago with the intention of selling it. I'd sold 3 or 4 other 'reliced' builds as an attempt to create a little cottage industry for myself. I tried on TM for about a month at 2K but had no bites. Subsequently it has become my favorite Tele.

Re: Sunburst Tele refinish
The body is a vintage spec All Parts made out of swamp ash. I wanted alder but they sent me ash by mistake. I went with it and in the end I think that's played a big roll in the guitar sounding so good.robthemac wrote:What did you make it out of? Did you do the relicing yourself?
The paint and relicing was done by myself.

Did you do some judicious sanding and the old hot-cold trick to make the cracks? I'm on the look out for a Strat to relic.

Might just be easier to buy a blank body.jeremyb wrote:Thinking of stripping back my MIM Tele and doing a nitro finish, maybe blue, pitfalls, considerations???
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Heat gun, paint scrapper and quite a lot of elbow grease.
Once I polished her up though it was a very satisfying experience!
