Why? That stuff looks so cool. And you have the ability to use it properly. Jealous, I am.

I think you are obligated to:
Buy them
Use them
Cherish them

This is good fun.

Alnico 2, asymmetrical coils totalling 14.1k, splits to 6.5k.

Since the inductance will be lower with the skinny wire I'm using bigass poles (m5x20mm) once again to bring back some chunk. Alnico 2 is a weak magnet so we'll see how this goes, I predict very round and warm with a bit of sag to it, which probably isn't good for chugs but should be great for all other things.

Also made this. An idea I've had for a while based on internet hokum from years ago where you'd get 2 humbuckers and take one coil from each and swap them over, so you'd have 1 coil from a JB and one from say a 59 in the same pickup.

So here we have one coil with 43 awg to 8.2k (6666 winds), and the other with 42awg to around 4.8k (5555 winds), sitting on top of an alnico 5 and then wax potted. Half a PAF, half a super distortion.

Does it still cancel hum if you don't have roughly equal and opposite outputs from each coil?

Yep. It's not too dissimilar from Duncan's 59/Custom hybrid (same swapped coil idea), or the Westone UBC (although that had one coil at 50% of the other one).

Did anyone grab this? I've put some time into a couple of really bad resto planes, would be happy to have a crack at this now :)
