Paua dot markers for the fretboard. Finnicky work but hopefully it will come out well...

Tried one in a test hole in a bit of puriri off-cut as per photo. Needs a bit of filling but should be okay.

On the floor actually...

The whole neck is made from NZ resources: kohekohe neck, puriri fretboard, rewarewa headstock veneer, paua shell dot markers on top and NZ cow bone (from Pack & Save) for side dot markers.

Will you finish it with oil? Gorgeous patterns going on. Not a huge fan of paua; reckon some black maire would contrast nicely with the puriri. You sir, have mad skills.

I made two first but Paua (silicon) is hard on tools so that did not work. Good old Bunnings have these diamond core bits for cutting glass so I chose one that had an inner diameter of about 6-7mm. Works a treat in the drill press.

Thank you Sir, that is high praise indeed and makes up for the 'horn abuse' I occasionally suffer from

I am mad indeed, thank you. Pattern was a fluke cut I'd say, but yes, I also think it is going to look stunning once I have oiled it with Briwax Teak oil. Tried it on a test piece and comes out nicely.

Maire, love to get some but paua it is :)

That looks awesome. With some oil it will look even better. Kudos.

But how do we know that is genuine Pack&Save cow bone?

Ta, I wish I could but not going to happen. TVJ Classics won't be here before that anyway. I'll post the rest of the progress in a separate thread. As this hollowbody guitar is a 'design' mix of a Duojet and a Corvette, I should call it 'Gretsch Duovette Madness' or 'Jay's Corvetjet Madness'

Original Japanese JV Squier from around 1982. It's been hideously deformed with a humbucker, a pick holder, and some switches, but still pretty cool.

Living dangerously - modding the Jansen 4/12 copy I made a while ago. Floor replaces the workbench today so I can test on the fly.
Can you tell what three mods I made (see bottom pic)?
