What's on your work bench?

Giving my 339 a crown and polish. Noticed a bit of rocking so thought I’d do the whole lot and give it a bit scrape and polish.

Started rewiring before I moved from aucks then got bogged down with renovations. Will finish this week

Got quite a bit on my workbench while I have a bit of free time.

Firstly, strat needed a rewire, not sure what the body is but it’s a sx neck which I refretted a few years back. Gave it a crown and polish, hard tailed it as well. I know I'll regret that as I always reach for a trem arm when playing a strat. Whether it has one or not... Its habit lol.

It has vintage tallboys in neck and middle and a Mr Glynn something in bridge. Oh I added a blender in a while back that I forgot about!


And a lineup of my Stanley planes - I should check what I have lol but there are more to collect - they are all used, both 4’s have a different grind on the blade, one is flat the other convex.

Oh and a rimu tele body I need to get stuck into after roughing it out a few weeks back.

First time making pickups today.

I've been looking for a Super 70 clone for ages - it's a HB asymmetrically wound to around 8k and using an a8 magnet. Everything with an a8 seems to be a big wind beast of a thing.

So I made this, and made it slightly overwound. It's 9.4k in series, the split coil is 5.4k as they're imbalanced.

Since I had these m5x20 grub screws from a Super Distortion mod I put them in but kept the gold cover. So not entirely faithful to the original, but it's mine not theirs. Now just to pot it when the paraffin gets here.

Checked the neck relief on my 8 string, was a bit beyond flat, so set it to 0.4mm and discovered why it was so flat... the action was crazy high now and I couldn't get the saddles low enough... so popped the neck off to put a shim in, discovered some already there so added more and now I can get the action nice and low, still need to do a bit more tweaking on the two lowest strings but the rest are much happier!

Got the set finished up tonight.

8k, a2 in the neck, splits to 4.3k.

9.4k, A8 in bridge, splits to 5.4k.

Wax potting tomorrow and then I guess I can install them. Might be shit, might be great.
