Progress stalled on the father son build as the previous order of truss rods has been stuck in customs since December 8th
The replacements arrived this week so we can crack on

It does annoy me when I have to search for the depth stop because its fallen out somewhere as I don't use it often... and the rubber gaiters are split now. Other than that, a good purchase
This is the second.
Its not enough that we succeed, we still need others to fail

Caught up with our forum buddy Griffalo today and scored these swamp Totara chunks, there are more

Surfaced a piece to see what the grain is like, very nice - darkens very nicely with a bit of oil

That’s some seriously nice wood! How is it weight wise? Like a red alder ish density?

Totara is a lovely wood to work with. Maori use it extensively for carving.
My 1st telecaster I built from a large, sixty year old or so totara fence post. Sadly enough I didn't realise that the grey streaks were water/fungus damage and the body split a few years later. My slab was also relatively heavy resulting in a 2392 gram body weight. Which is 2 pounds heavier than the tele body I am making atm.

Lovely grain. Are you tempted to run it down the table saw and re-glue minus the streaks?

Yes, I was gutted when that happened. The break tension is huge, so a clamp and glue won't work. Cutting it out and then glue destroy the telecaster dimensions. I have given it away to my neighbour who is going to put it up on the wall in his music room.
