Put amber Shellac on the top to pop the grain but still look natural, tried blue and purple dye but I preferred a naturalish tone
Sprayed a couple of coats of clear lacquer to seal it, next step will be route it to final shape with the original Elm giving a faux binding effect

My old black strat, made the mahogany body about a decade ago, favourite strat. Time for a fret dress and crown.
A mission as the bridge was floating.
Probably more like 15 years ago, blimey. Time flies. Warmoth neck with the side adjuster, worth its weight in gold! Locking tuners, wilkinson 2 point bridge and piezo. Most versatile.
Its not enough that we succeed, we still need others to fail
I was gifted a big 50mm slab of mahogany from the boss.....here I am sizing up a spare 8 string neck on a Jazzmaster body shape. The 8 is the only neck I have spare at present... not sure if I want an 8 enough or should use this slab for an 8...really liking the Jazzmaster shape though...decisions....
Almost finished putting this together for a friend.

Lightweight alder body sprayed in black nitrocellulose and then given hairline cracks all over, Fralin pickups 2 x Danelectro style lipsticks and 1 PAF style humbucker, Mojo tone harness, Fender locking staggered tuners so no need for a string tree, Wilkinson big block trem with 'push in' trem bar, 22 fret strat style neck with jumbo frets abalone inlays finished in matt black.
My taste in strats is usually a little more traditional but I really love the way this ones turned out.

Looks awesome man. What brand is the nitro? I need to track some down at some point.
Really dig what you did there, lipsticks always look a lil risky to me haha cool though.

It was canned stuff from StewMac. I'm going to finish wiring it up tomorrow so hopefully it sounds as good as it looks!

How did you do the checking, heat then freeze spray?
About a month after the last coat I chucked it into the freezer for about 24 hours. I then attacked it with a hair dryer.

This one is working but the finishing has stalled due to my big idea of creating an art deco type grill was resulting is rattles that would have been nuts at volume.
Have grabbed some grill cloth, will blacken those mounting bolts and hopefully finish it off soon.
