one of the 5 I own :eek:

It does annoy me when I have to search for the depth stop because its fallen out somewhere as I don't use it often... and the rubber gaiters are split now. Other than that, a good purchase :)

Caught up with our forum buddy Griffalo today and scored these swamp Totara chunks, there are more

Surfaced a piece to see what the grain is like, very nice - darkens very nicely with a bit of oil

That’s some seriously nice wood! How is it weight wise? Like a red alder ish density?

It's very light, swamp Ash territory,
I got all the pieces machined ready to make into body blanks

Totara is a lovely wood to work with. Maori use it extensively for carving.

My 1st telecaster I built from a large, sixty year old or so totara fence post. Sadly enough I didn't realise that the grey streaks were water/fungus damage and the body split a few years later. My slab was also relatively heavy resulting in a 2392 gram body weight. Which is 2 pounds heavier than the tele body I am making atm.

Yes, I was gutted when that happened. The break tension is huge, so a clamp and glue won't work. Cutting it out and then glue destroy the telecaster dimensions. I have given it away to my neighbour who is going to put it up on the wall in his music room.
