After waiting an age for my custom baseplates and little stickers to come in I finally got around to winding some humbuckers. This is what I call the Salted Earth, a big meaty thing built around an alnico 8. 14k ish, but asymmetrical coils so it's a bit more open in the mids and I find they clean up nicer than a straight 50/50 wind.
Alnico 8s are my favourite bridge magnet, they have the power of a ceramic but the response of an alnico and they work great for any wind in my experience. The Ibanez Super 70 used alnico 8s back in the day, which is what set me on the path.
