Re: Princeton or Otago
I like the idea of/ concept of stepping away from generic fender names. I’d say keep working at it a bit tho. I like the red beach idea for an overall designer name. I’d then build on that by choosing names that connect to that for each amp , rather than an abstraction from American universities to nz universities, which doesn’t particularly speak to me.
I dunno, maybe some of the local islands / beaches / fish / fauna / flora etc etc
Anyhow I reckon you’re not far off but still needs a bit of workshopping
My 2.5 cents

Not a fan of Otago Uni, but I am Massey! And Lincoln. Biased tho.

I like 'Red beach Amplifier Company.' I've got one of your Little Princeton Amps, and absolutely love it. When you get some logos, I'd be great to be able to put your logo on it.MikeC wrote: ↑Tue Apr 15, 2025 5:44 pmIt's on the back but I'm gonna get a badge. I'm changing to "Red Beach Amplifier Co." for the brand (thanks Hamish aka Bigporridgeday). And I've decided on "Otago for the amp name" - the majority preferred it and "Princeton" invites too much possible trouble. Thanks to those that provided constructive input and to the others for providing light relief!

I do admit I have a little giggle when an amp manufacturer makes an amp based on a fender amp, calls it their own name, but in describing the sound, they reference Fender amps that they based it on

Check this out from the Tone King Website...
Tone King is proud to offer the Imperial MKII. From a spanky blackface-style voice to ‘50s-era tweed grit, you’ll find all of the most iconic American tube tones residing in this 1 x 12”, 20-watt combo.
Though labeled Rhythm and Lead, the Imperial MKII’s dual foot switchable channels could very well be called Blackface and Tweed. The higher-headroom Rhythm channel speaks with the crystal-clear body and presence of the mid-60’s most popular amps. The Lead channel brings on the spongy midrange response and sustain of the most bellowed 50’s designs.

Re: Princeton or Otago
Something else that I realised when thinking about this was that the Fender Harvard and Princeton were named after universities because they were student models, but you’re pitching this as a ‘pro’ model.
Nothing wrong with that at all but it amused me a bit when I realised that.
