Princeton or Otago

Post by MikeC »

Help me decide.
"Princeton" is an American university. Leo used the name for the the Fender amp that we all know.
"Otago" is a New Zealand university. No other country has an "Otago".
And feel free to make alternate suggestions if you think you have something better!

Cool, how about the faceplate being an earthy red colour to reinforce Otago?

I'd use the 'Princeton Pro' name. It gives people an idea of what the amp is based on, and they'll have a bit of an understanding on what it's going to sound like. Take advantage of the branding Fender have done for the word 'Princeton.' :-)

I like your thinking, Mike. Otago is a clever alternative. What about Otago Reverb to steer it back a little towards the original without getting too infringey?

It's an idea but kind-of circling back for me. The Pro has a reverb knob so I've decided not to state the obvious. The "infringey" thing is certainly a big consideration for me (hence it's not a "Victoria Pro"). I'd receive a "cease & desist" notice pretty quick I reckon!

You mean "what the amp was inspired by", aye?

Not when I replied but I guessed there was a tie in to "red earth". Have just checked the meaning so now fully appreciate what you said. Unfortunately I've gone off red control panels - the new SRT panels will be black too.

You could go with Mārama Reverb – more descriptive of the sound

The macron makes the difference – Mārama is along the lines of clear, bright
