Vox AC15 CC1 Rehouse completed

Post by Bg »

After creating a new headshell for Ben last year covered in Green Tolex, I had a wanting to do my AC15.

As I'm currently unemployed/unemployable - though there was an advert for a Trolley Collection Assistant at Pak 'n' Save Richmond yesterday - I thought it was time for me to actually do the deed.

I also wanted to reduce the weight somewhat, which it definitely has, although I didn't weigh before hand as I couldn't get to a truck place with a weighbridge. Vox cabs are lead lined to stop gamma radiation from turning the valves into little mini hulks. I'm assuming they use MDF on these chinese made buggers at least.

So I jointed up some finest radiata pine, set up the dovetail jig and low and behold, an AC15 I can carry one handed.

I would agree but I didn't recover the lead lined casket, I recreated using toan inducing pine with properly made joints, thus reducing weight by 5 metric tonnes :D

Was thinking about redoing switches but thought, nah....

Seat of pants weighing scale has reduced the weight by 500%. Batteries have run out in my scales :D

I remember carrying it down 4 flights of stairs last week and having to rest half way. I reckon I could jog up them now with it balanced on my head.

Well. My vox is heavier than yours then. Making it MUCH less likely to be blown away.

Still waiting for the tolex to dry properly in places, hence the lumpy air pockets in a couple of the pics. I usually let it settle for 5-7 days before releasing into the wild :)

They're growing on me, but I need to print some new corners, the originals are pretty scuffed. Or I could just accept it the way it is lol

Yeh youd hate to have scuffed corners. You could make corner protector protectors.
