50w/25w! Feel free to try it out when you're in Auckland. Are you referring to the black one i posted earlier?

Yesterday, I had a bit of time so I spent an hour drilling the rest of the chassis and mounting the power transformer (PT) and some parts. If the amp works well, i'm probably gonna use Mike's connection to predrill the chassis. I also drilled the board and mounted the turrets using a centre punch and hammer for the 2 amps  . Since the chassis is only 350mm wide, I mounted the PT upright with a modified L bracket. Nice and easy solution.

BTW, One of the amps is going to Ramsay.

Pentode/triode switch. Same what they use in two rocks I think. Doesn't sound as good as the full though.

How much of the dumble sound comes from the big wattage and big tubes? like could you just have the preamp section paired up with a single 6V6 or a single / pair of EL84s or something like that for a more bedroom friendly dumble style amp?

Yup you could do that. I've built two low wattage amplifiers: one with a single 6V6 and another with a 6SN7. Tonally, they are similar, but offers a very different feel. You still get that dumble tone, however, the lower wattage design has less bloom and earlier break-up but similar tone. And also the single-ended output stage having that second harmonic distortion which can also be a good thing.

For Dumble-style amps, I guess part of the distinctive sounds comes from the higher wattage? with bigger irons, the output stage is "refined" at higher volumes. I guess it's also that effortless tone you get with big wattage. That reminds me, I need to build a 100 watter next

Hmmmm I wonder if that could be the kinda thing you could power with that switchmode power supply that was posted here the other day... would be interested to see some pics of your 6V6 powered one!

I guess what my dream would be to have SSS cleans and then I would use drive pedals to get the drive toanz I like

Thanks for this thread. One day I'd love to own one of your amps.

Completed Ramsay's amp last weekend. Started the 40w project, this one's somewhat closer to the studio signature but I mis-ordered a couple of parts so will have to continue this again next week. On a good note, a couple of steel string singer #002 chassis is on its way. going for 100w. Thanks to Jeremy for reminding me.

Two more weeks til the rest of the parts arrive. Have populated 80% of it. In the mean time I'll work on the other stuff.
