1974X 18 watt - StewMac kit FOR SALE - SOLD

Post by GrantB »

I have acquired this (Marshall) 1974x amp circuit, with excellent trannies, lovely alloy chassis, classy faceplates, Mojo caps, and a compliment of JJ tubes (has an EZ81 rectumfryer). The soldering etc isn't as tidy as I'd like to see it, but it sounds like it should. Gritty and driven after 3/4 on the dial. There is a tiny amount of inherent hum (gat unplugged - so def wiring could be tidied to sort). The trem doesn't work and apparently that is a StewMac circuit flaw. Who knew.

Good project. What do we reckon $ wise?

Oh, I thought you were wanting to sell it?

I have no idea what such things are worth, but all the non branded amp circuits, as cool as they may be are going for less and less it would seem.

None of the ones I’m watching on tm are selling at all!

My friend would love this as a project though, so if you were considering a sale, I could be tempted…

Yeah - I do want to sell it...what price tho? I'm at a loss. Parts alone are a rectum clenching $700-800 (excl tubes). But my expectations would be much more modest.

Ah, it is basically this...same parts, everything. New, NZD$900 plus shipping (what's the guess there - $200?).

Yeh I think only bread and butter stuff is selling as it’s a tough market and people want to be assured of the resale

Not at this point - I need that cab for something else. I do have a head shell, just not black Marshall type. But send me a PM if you’re keen on the shebang.

Yip, resale is the point for those of us that eternally cycle through gear.

I don’t want to buy an amp for $1k to find out the rest of the world thinks it’s worth 3 hundi when I go to sell it.

I’ve been watching the ceriatone 1974x on tm come down and soon it will be at a point I will buy it, last offer was $750 and still no takers!

Yep. Got to be cheap enough to feel ok if you don’t like it.

Possibly a dumb question, but given the orientation of the tubes, that chassis would only work in a head cab yeah?
Nothing to see here.
