Test driving the mini JCM800 from Elams
This little guy, handmade by Mr Elams of youtube amp building fame. As an idea of size it's sat on top of a Mesa Stiletto 1x12 and is more or less half the width.
In true prototype fashion it has printed labels and mismatched knobs.
I got this for the weekend to test, jam through, and generally provide feedback on the user experience given it's a 20w JCM800 running 2x 6L6 and its own unique FX loop and bunch of controls. They all do something and interact in interesting ways but in my caveman way I found where they worked well and sounded great, so I left them.
10/10 lead dressing.
What a great amp. There is no 'clean channel' per se, you just set the gain knob where you want it and it goes from clean to dirty on the pot. I quite like this system as I'm a turn the volume knob kinda guy for my 'clean' sound, which isn't really clean clean but it'll do it if you want it (well, as clean as 800s are). Stick a drive in front (I'm also road testing one my new designs) and it's a total monster.
I've asked him to make me one.

Looks cool. Have you tried diming the master volume and adding just enough preamp gain to get some crunch?
Is he looking for any more testers?

I have, but I like having windows so the gain was an atom above 0.
Since there's no enclosure for it and it's literally unique I told him it wouldn't leave the house. Plus he's coming to collect it tomorrow as far as I know.

Any tube amp is loud as hell. 2x 6L6 and a transformer this big is no joke. This Classic Tone is a beast.robthemac wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 6:54 pmIt's a loud 20W, then?NippleWrestler wrote: ↑Sun Jan 07, 2024 6:49 pmI have, but I like having windows so the gain was an atom above 0.
