Dumble Ods style low watt amp

Post by Marshmallow »

So, I've managed an amp with a dumble preamp with spare parts. I couldn't find chassis here so got a solid state junk used it to put the parts in. I'll be rehousing it in the next few weeks. Still got the crappy 8" stock speaker in the box. I can do sound samples this weekend. Gain character and blend trim adjust is inside so will need to find a way to put it to front /back somehow haha. chassis will be painted black. Housing will be in walnut/oak(or pine)

Producing about 2w

Future mods: footswitch out for channel select and get the trimpot to mouth to the back plate if possible. I want to run it with a creamback 65 speaker if possible

Very nicely done!! Does connecting the resistors etc directly to the base of the tube socket make it easier to avoid hum that you might get with wire dressing issues?

Nope not really, any type of constructions requires careful placement of components and wiring.

Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Thanks all!

Unforunately, there's a bit of delay in sound samples due to the new speaker arriving late. it is a G12-65 Rola from the 80s. I'm using a Japanese Cedar called "Sugi" for the housing. They use the same wood to make furniture, exterior weatherboard/ table etc. I'll make this amp all japanese looking for me to take home to NZ haha.

Sound sample should be available next week. So far the cleans are great and comparable to those ODS amps. The gain is awesome and fat as well. Please wait a week or two.

Good ground bus wire should be fairly quiet. I do my amps that way.
I would not trust the filter caps, have you used that brand before?
Needs IEC socket and Chassis ground!

Hey man thanks for the comment! Ground bus is a must for me. See my previous build(link) at the bottom of this message! Actually I do not trust the filter caps at all, this was my COVID build with spare parts and junk chassis haha. So I wouldn't expect much but eventually I'll redo the caps when the stores are open and safe.

It does need the iec plug. I will sort it out when I can get parts at the electronic shop. Covid still in the way
Regarding the ground, I also didn't bother grounding anything yet because there's no ground socket here in Japan. I'll eventually add it before I go to back new zealand. That would mean modifying the transformer haha

On the side note, I was asking about the speakers for the amp in the previous thread. I ended up getting this. I just bought this from eBay. Should be here in 2 weeks! Or a month.

Electrovoice SRO12 alnico.

This was my previous built I actually finished. It's sitting in New Zealand now. My brother picked it up when he visited in Japan but I'll be building more of these when I get back to New Zealand. Hopefully with better parts haha I'll ask him to get some photos to close the thread.

Great work also. All done in bedroom? Find some 60/40 solder, you won't have any more trouble with crusty joints on your turrets.

Hey man!yea all done in the bedroom! haha  I learnt it all from an old man and he was crazy thorough with the details and Im sure my dumble wont pass his standard,

Well noted on the 60/40, I think I do use the same. Love you work though, when I'm back I'm happy to get a custom build done! :D
