I think they are the stock Eminence made alnico blue frame speakers. They sound ok, but I’m not very familiar with 10” speakers to compare them.

A very interesting option, I’d consider that. Although I’d say that could be twice the price finished as my original plan.jeremyb wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 5:43 pm Why not Dumblefy it? https://luigiretro.com/HRD2ODS_retrofit_pcb

Re: Whats on your amp workbench?
So I have confirmed the transformers are all good and it should make a good donor for a Fender build.
I’ll be restricted to SS rectifier and will probably for go the reverb option as it will need an extra transformer.
So my current favourite option is still a 5f6 but we found this cross between a jtm and 5f6 option which I kinda like the idea of more.
I know I love jtm45s but never tried one into 4x10 speakers.

Or should I be looking further a field like a blonde or black face circuit?
And I’m also considering doing an amber shellac on the rough cabinet to give it some more vibe.
There will be more holes on the panel than knobs on a bassman so I might look into a new face plate as well, I can make engraved versions of this myself.

Trying the speakers with a Brit style 18watt EF86 amp, it’s different from 12” speakers but I like it still.

The cab is such a glorious wreck and will look amazing with that patina highlighted with amber shellac
If youre trying to decide between a blackface or tweed then why not transitional circuit from the brownface line up like a 6g3 deluxe or 6g13 vibroverb?
Man a vibroverb in a tweed cab with 4x10 ! thatd be sick.

Re: Whats on your amp workbench?
Just been reading up on the vibroverb and deluxe, I think the vibroverb is probably a step too far for this, 6 x preamp tubes, bias trem, tube rectifier etc. I’ll essentially be restricted to no reverb, 2 x 6L6 and 3 x preamp tubes and SS rectifier due to the transformer configuration apparently (unless we start drilling new holes etc)StrummersOfThunder wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 5:13 pmI love all of this.Reg18 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 2:43 pm So I have confirmed the transformers are all good and it should make a good donor for a Fender build.

Deluxe is a more straight forward build I think but I’ve had a couple of tweed deluxes and probably looking for something else this time.
Reading up on the differences between 5f6a and JTM45 there’s not much, some info online I found. I’ll have an 8ohm output tap from the Blues Deville transformer.
“The JTM45 uses a higher gain 12AX7 in V1 where the 5F6A uses a 12AY7.
The JTM45 has 2.8 times more negative feedback because the feedback source is from the 16 ohm speaker tap where the 5F6A uses a 2 ohm tap”

Sooo so good. 10" holding that mid range together as they do. Crunchy and no bottom end flab.
Bonus points for Weezer.

Re: Whats on your amp workbench?
Something worth mentioning is that the trem depth resistor many recommend can end up being too aggressive. I found that I had to bump mine back up a tad because at max intensities it was essentially switching the tubes off - had weird distortion and I slowly clicked it was the power tubes
