Well, that is a generous offer from the TolexMeister. I ain't saying I don't like my blues, but show them colours anyways.Bg wrote:I have some blue vinyl somewhere if you want me to give it a makeover, won't even cost you more than a donation to the forum

I'm happy to use yours, just generally to make it as perfect as can be, it sounds like it deserves itjvpp wrote:Well, that is a generous offer from the TolexMeister. Nothing wrong with a couple of chaps wearing tight denim Daisy dukes handling a table router together.jvpp wrote:If I remember correctly, yours were shorter than mine and definitely would be tighter than tight on me.StrummersOfThunder wrote:Don't worry, Jvpp and I have a special relationship. That's a good point. He could have covered it in ripped denim!!
I didn't think ripped denim with fishy smell would be acceptable.
Still don't understand why you had to film it tho, also what was with the disclaimer I had to sign?

Re: Building a Jansen 4/TWELVE SPECIAL copy (COMPLETE)
Here's a subjective assessment:
Plugging into the Blue, it's immediately familiar. Being picky, it seemed slightly more scooped, but slightly.
It has noticeably less hum and hiss which is of course a bonus.
It seemed slightly more restrained; not quieter, but less presence.
I opened the Jansen and pulled V1. At this point I got a surprise. Some time ago, I tasted all my available valves, found a combination I liked and left them there. I was sure V1 was a 5751 but what came out was a 12ay7 (

Put the 12ay7 into the Blue and there it was; all the presence and sparkle of the original.
Jvpp has done an amazing job of this project. He's perfectly captured what makes the original so appealing and has made it quieter as well.
And there's a new cab coming with properly gorgeous Tolex.
I want one!

Finally a man with taste. I do like the original blue vinyl too and hate to pull it off with all the associated glue mess. Better to make a new cabinet (very slowly) and then use the other gorgeous (tolex) bluejeremyb wrote:That original styling is superb!

Thanks for the kind words Slowy. I think you liked the in built speaker as well?slowy wrote:Jvpp has done an amazing job of this project. He's perfectly captured what makes the original so appealing and has made it quieter as well.

My next valve order will include an 12AY7 as that is indeed the way to go. I will also update the circuit diagram to reflect that.

Yes indeed. Forgot that!jvpp wrote:

There's a small speaker built into the head. Makes it a perfect late night/bedroom amp. Very clever.

The original blue vinyl is fine until you see the blue Tolex jvpp has got. It's pure class.jvpp wrote:Finally a man with taste. The blue tolex is nice. There's enough black and tweed around the place already

vinyl is a complete PITA to apply, you'll find the tolex much easier and it will turn out much better.
