Hi guys,

I have got this little fellow here. I don't use it very much because I've also got a Jansen 6/20 - so I was thinking about selling it.

Before I did so, I thought I'd ask...

Are there any mods that could be done to it? I'm not thinking about a complete rebuild, just some things that would make it different enough to make it worthwhile keeping.

The amp is handwired with no PCB, and everything works well.

It's a really old amp, so If you think it is a dumb idea to mod it, and that I should keep it original, please let me know.

Thanks

A change of owner would be a good mod.......me :)

Maybe John, Clary or someone with the black art of amps mastered could work some improvements into the tone stack? From memory aren't they a little lacking in top end? I.e. not much chime? Looks great...you should auction it - there's a few of us here keen it sounds like :D

Without looking at it to see what work has been done, hard to suggest anything especially.
Amps this old do have problems with Electrolytic Capacitors, Resistors which have aged and drifted away from the acceptable value, scratchy pots etc.
All of which can effect voltages and tonal quality.
These sort of age related problems are not difficult/expensive to remedy.
Your profile does not give your location.

The 6/12 Reverb is a rare model. My advice would be to give it a full servicing as Alan suggested, but not to modify it.

I had a look inside my singer's 6/20 recently - a lot of the resistors had drifted beyond 10%. Interestingly, the preamp section was very Fender - specifically, the Blonde/Brown period (tapped treble pots etc) - preamp circuit was almost identical. Phase inverter and power section were a bit different though - AC-coupled cathodyne phase inverter/splitter ala Fender 5E# series. 20w at clip, 40w at max, the overdrive with the volume on full is fantastic.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your help.

Here is a pick of the inside of the amp. I'm not sure what the tubes they are, sorry

I'll put it up for auction, and see if there is some interest. I've got no idea what it is worth. I think it would probably be a shame to alter it. I'm also putting my Jansen Bassman up as well.

That is very cool.

Interestingly I've got an old Conchord (made in auckland late 50s early 60s I've been told) that is very similar in its architecture... 12" Rola, 2 EL84s, an ECC82 Driver tube and ECC83 Preamp tubes, EZ80 Rectifier tube and tremolo, but no reverb.

How does the rola sound on this one? The conchord sounds boxy as hell.

Unless there is a valve not visible in his pic. of Jansen it has a solid state rectifier.
Both the tall valves are EL84, ECC83 for pre amps, phase inverter and reverb all visible.
Would be very simple to get this amp sorted.
