3 knob expression pedal controller

Post by StratMatt »

I'm wanting to build/buy an expression pedal controller like the one in this video: https://youtu.be/OHwr98QvTkE to use with my Axe3.

Basically an enclosure with 3 x 100k (I think) pots each with its own TRS jack.

There's a link there to walk you through how to make it yourself. I'm OK with basic soldering and could probably figure it out, but I'm not sure where the best place is to buy parts from, plus the whole shipping situation at the moment.

I'm also just as happy to pay one of the clever folks that reside here among to build me one, if anyone is willing to take up the job. Failing that, could someone point me in the right direction in where to buy an enclosure and necessary parts?

TIA.

Taydaelectronics.com for parts.

Looks like a fun project. A step bit will really help drilling the holes in the enclosure btw.

That looks cool. Wouldn't mind something like that myself. I don't have the expression outs but I wonder if I could wrangle a dual one.

Loopi pedals in Aus make a dual exp pedal, shipping is a killer though.

I’d like one of those too after watching that video! If shipping is pricey maybe I can piggy back on your parts order to split the shipping?

I just placed my order before noticing your reply. The whole lot including shipping, plus 6 x barefoot style buttons for my FC6 came to about $45. Just realised I forgot to add wire to my order but I think I've got some, otherwise will hit up jaycar for that.

Ooh cheers. Depending on how I set things up I may just have room for one of these, or two mini ones.

I have always missed being able to adjust delay parameters using actual knobs.

What kind of pots did you order? 100k?

Went for 10K linear in the end, for no other reason than that's what looked to be used in most expression pedals that I could see.

You can buy enclosures, pots and TRS sockets from Jaycar. Should be a pretty simple build.

You can make a 100k into a 10k with a resistor, you can't make a 10k into a 100k. Hopefully you got the right value :)

Plenty of schematics out there: https://www.strymon.net/strymon-tech-co ... ion-pedal/

I have some digital potentiometers I should put to good use some time and make something funky... hmm....

Does anyone know where to buy enclosures that are more like the GFI triple switch?

I have a super tight pedalboard but I could possibly make this if I had the right enclosure and mini pots.

In fact, this is probably still too small for everything. Might just use the FM3 front panel.

I'd be making one if I was running an Axefx3 though.
