Reverb tanks: experts assemble

Post by Kev77 »

So I’m working on some reverb tank projects and I’m needing some expert advise beyond “plug them in and see if you like them “.
I’m wondering if you can Diasy chain tanks to get a broader reverb.
I’m building a “universal” driver kit from BJF that should be compatible with all the various tanks, but wondering what other mojo you experts do to get the massive boing and drip.
I’ve got a pair of these, would it be practical to Daisy chain them?

These are three spring in a Z shape configuration

And a couple of large two spring tanks like this

And tiny two spring like this guy

Any ideas?

Here's my honest opinion.
Give up on the universal and build a surfy bear clone /kit or a 6g15.
I built a version of the universal and it sucked.
Tank wise there are plenty of reviews and sound demos on you tube. For the most part surf sounds compare the 4ab3c1b (I think I got that right ) variants. I like accutronics, I don't like MOD or TAD. But if you like darker verb you might.

You can't daisy-chain the tanks directly, you would need a driver circuit between them.
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Hot thread. I'm curious what is the rough cost of a whole kit like this? I've seen those bare tanks on FB for 150ish and am quite curious.

I’ve heard of people (on the internets) paralleling long and short spring tanks with varying degrees of success. You’re probably better off just optimising a circuit/design for one particular tank and sound though, or maybe use a switchable design for short vs long tank options. Depends what you’re trying to gain by using multiple tanks...?

I think you'll run into an impedance problem if you stray to far from the tank that the circuit is designed for.
Congrats on the surfy bear + trem kit. The best sounding digital stuff for sure imo.

You can usually get them from Direct Imports (based in Napier I think?):

There is a three spring accutronics in the combo I just bought. Code is 9AB2C1B. Has cables and driver? Circuit intact. Does $60 plus shipping for the tank and all the gubbins sound fair?
