I'm pretty sure this is the 'Hound Dog Taylor ' one with the right pickups and set neck (with a neck plate). It's got all the bits but probably needs a bunch of replacements. Looking forward to working on this one. It's kind of BBQed and gnarly but I think it'll end up cool. As I'm sure some of you know, I love these weird shaped Teiscos.

All three are super cool, and just as they are they make good wall art. But if you get them going you should definitely open up a funky music store— in NZ please.

It's pretty much a 50's Chevy tail fin with frets.

Looking great!!! What did you use to discolour the paint to get that relic look?

I used an amber tinted lacquer and just kinda did around the edges of the body and headstock. I've always noticed on old guitars that that's the area that discolours first. Then a bunch of clear coats on top. I'll give it a light relic in a month or so once the finish has hardened.

Turns out this is a 1960-61 SW-4L. There were 10 variations of this model throughout the 60s and this one has features that put it halfway between the first and second models. The red one that I own is the 5th model.

After only a year I've finally finished it. Refret, inlays, tuners, bridge, paint, bigsby style trem arm, Mustang style switching system. I decided to upgrade all things that are an issue with most Teisco guitars namely the frets and intonation. It plays a million times better now and the pickups are nice and grunty. The trem has been a bit of a revelation, it works perfectly. I've got 3 other Teiscos with the same trem that are rubbish so maybe it's just this particular one.

Good job! I am so looking forward to getting a Hound Dog Taylor guitar off you when you get back to NZ! But you know that already. Pity that ones not the Hound Dog colour.

I've been mulling the idea of trying to build one. I've got the guitars to make templates from and I could fix all those design screw ups that Teisco were so great at.
