Absolutely this.NippleWrestler wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 8:15 am Try all you can. Some are magic, some are lemons, regardless of year.
That’s what I did. Played every LP I could, at jams, gearfests, shops etc.
Got an appreciation of what I liked and didn’t, how a good one should feel and sound.
The one I eventually bought wasn’t a colour I wanted/had considered, but when I played it, it felt and sounded right.
It’s the perfect LP to me, have played a couple of nice custom shop / Rn’s etc since, and none of them made me feel my LP standard doesn’t hold up.

I like that it has a spare cover for the truss rod so you can easily de-slashify it!
I have no issues with slash, he's a gigantic talent but my god I just hate Axl's voice! and therefore all guns'n'roses music, unless it's a guitar solo

Yeah I quite like 90s I got a LPC 1997 which plays great!robthemac wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 7:03 am Early 90s occasionally show up and are reasonably affordable, $3000-$3500 from memory. They're usually pretty plain tops. Not sure what the neck profiles are like though. A lot of them will be nearing re-fret time, if not there already.
A newer Standard 60s might inflate your dinghy. They're frequently for sale, not sure what they're selling for. Or an R0 if you have the coin.

I'm John Lee Hooker in the sense that he was a blues man and he played blues his whole life. I'm a rock guy and I'm going to play rock music my whole life.

Unsure if it's still there, but Bill (Bungalow Bill) had an ebony 1987 LP Standard (same year as Slash's Jessica) for around $4k. Give him a yell in case it's still there or if he has any others for sale
