Is the saddle slot deep enough to allow for that? Or does it needs 'deepening' to maintain saddle support?
It's deep enough. When I measured it it was 5mm deep, or about half the bridge. There's room in there as is, and there's wiggle room to deepen it as there's a lot of wood below the slot as is.
