NGD: offset content

Caught the offset bug. This was on TradeMe for a very attractive price. Strummers kindly diverted all his attention towards hitting refresh until a buy now appeared. Nearby pedestrians are recovering well.

Early 2000s AVRI Jag. Mostly stock other than a Mastery bridge and some replacement pickups (dunno what they even are, something from the Eagle's Offset Nest in Tutukaka).

Came with a decent amount of natural playwear. A few weeks in the Guitar Sauna with two toddlers have added to that. Some sunlight and a quick trip in the freezer accentuated the finishing checking.

Plays and sounds epic, no doubt in part to a lot of man-hours from a hobbling anesthesiologist.

The colour is Ocean Turquoise Metallic. Green in direct light, but grey/blue in others.

Nice one Rob

This is a fab jaguar. I’d say top 3 of jags I’ve played.
It’s now fitted with a mastery bridge and a combination of avri 65 fender and Jess loureiro jag pups which sound the biz.

Something about these earlier / circa 2000 av fenders. Lovely thin nitro , light bodies and great finishing work. Tis guitar set up really nicely with 11s.

Rob, nice to see you making the most of the vibrato. People forget how subtle you can be with a fender offset vibrato. It’s not all about big surfy work.

The nitro is checking nicely under Robbie’s sweaty tutorage.

I can recommend one of these for extra-smooth, non-floppy vibrato action:
https://www.staytrem.com/store/staytrem ... jazzmaster

And for a curvier, more vintagey vibrato arm. I have one on my JM:

The fender arm can be abused into shape
But yes the staytrem bridge remains the standard
I’m not all that fond of mastery anymore but they do what they do …
I’d like to try the toughest but fm they’re steep

I was referring/linked to the Staytrem arm and collet rather than the bridge. Super smooth, and the arm stays where you put it.

More than happy with the AmPro/Mustang type bridge on my JM. :)

Yeah that's the one advantage of a Strat trem. The damn thing stays put.

You can get the arm on an offset vibrato to stay put – most people don't push the arm in far enough. The Staytrem just has the added advantage of a lovely smooth action.

Ah right I have not tried but have heard good things. I just bend a tiny kink in the last inch of the trem arm insert and that snugs things up enough

And Robert I’ll thank you not to use the word Strat let alone Strat trem (shudder) in an offset thread.
