Do I see that right? Only a zero and 2nd fret? All the rest is just wood?
If so that would explain the tiny bridge as intonation is not realy that important anymore.

Typically DADGDA tuning played in the key of G. Pentatonic scale with a 6th 'support' note. C and F always get vibrato, B and D# are bent a quartertone sharp. Improvise and build tension then resolve to the correct tones. Exact same approach to western jazz.
