Paul himself comes across as a bit of a dick these days. Like he and he alone understands what it is to make a good guitar.

Anyway, I wonder, can anybody point to a great, classic guitar tone / piece of guitar music that was performed on a PRS?

Same here, I think it's the combination of weird scale length and maple vs mahogany ratio that make them sound that way? Even with pickups swapped to the usual suspects they still sound that way haha.

Fun fact: according to the PRS book the guitar Paul always aspired to make is the double cut Junior/Special. Which explains why they always sound very different to a full sized LP.

Santana sounds like Santana whether he’s playing a PRS, Gibson or Yamaha. Personally I wouldn’t consider him if I’m thinking of guitarists with great tone but each to their own

It might be a stretch, but I put PRS and Dusen's in that same tone bucket...smooth, hi-fi, lacking in excitement. Toany is right in the whiskey analogy

I still would love a gold top PRS with P90s one day  but in a 27” scale length…

Hmm... I remember the video being a lot cooler when I saw it in High School.

3 Doors Down and Collective Soul get some nice live tones from their PRS.

I was looking for a McCarty 594 recently, but there weren't any around, even on the net in the finish I wanted (black,) so I played a bunch of PRS, at K Rd Rockshop - 4 out of the 6 in their backroom, then 2 down at Guitar Gallery. All very nice, sounding good, made beautifully, but not quite what I was looking for. Their headstock and properly cut nuts give them a big + in my book, whereas Gibson fail in that crucial area. My brother has a beautiful black 408 PRS, which is just a stunning guitar in every facet.

My new '68 Custom, which I initially thought was set up well, has had the high e nut slot cut too low, and even after some neck relief on the truss, it's still too low, leaving me to have to slip a bit've paper under there as a temporary fix. A $6,500USD guitar needing attention to the nut is not good enough/effing pathetic. It reminded me of Team NZ in the America's Cup, bailing water out of their multi-million dollar boat with a $2 bucket.

Whilst at the two stores mentioned though, I played the Cantrell LP at K Rd and the 70-71 Custom LP at GG, and they just felt familiar, sounded raunchy and put me back on to Gibsons, even though their poorly cut nuts make me want to cry.
