I’d say a Denche composite
"Cash on the ballot, money to burn, Dealey Plaza, make a left-hand turn" Bob Dylan is a genius

Well I own it!
Was just to good of a price to turn down.
It does have its issues though, I’d say bridge pickup is dead, or 3 way switch needs replacing.
Frets are due for a new set, neck seems straight and guitar is still playable in current state though.
I was expecting to walk into some dodgy possibly stolen situation however it was a older gentleman in a smaller Canterbury town who didn’t really know how to advertise on the internet so put an add in the local
Classified section of the paper. Like the good old days!
Seems like an authentic guy in his 80s, (still playing bass in a local jazz band) who had owned the guitar for 20 plus years.
If I didn’t buy it I’m Sure someone would have to make a profit so I couldn’t turn it down.
Can anyone advise me if this would have originally had a black guard?

So what did you pay?!!!! I love early to mid 70s Fender's, not because they're particularly good in any way but they're the ' cheap' cool ones from when I started out. Still got some, still love them. Looks pretty good, the guard by 73 would have been multi ply so that isn't original but it would look great with a nice white (NOT MINT!!!) 3 layer guard. The stratocasters were fully in at the end of 71 with the 3 bolt micro tilt but all the other models either came in later or never had it at all. Looks like a magic score bro, chuck ya 5 hand shandy for it?!!!!!!!!!

And I can tell you right now, that neck is early 70s AF. Probably worth the entry fee alone.

Would it be worth sourcing some original tuners? I suspect the holes might have been enlarged to fit the replacements though. might try and find a white guard though as I prefer the look. First priority is to get the pickups working.
I’m guessing brass nut isn’t original either?

I don't know if it would be worth sourcing original tuners (they'll probably be horrifically expensive). See how those ones work- if they're fine you could just stick with them. If it were mine, the wonky one would bug the shit out of me, and I would probably get some of these repro tuners.

Along with some adapter bushings.
