Budget Mahogany small body cutaway acoustic?

Post by Gitar »

For the Mrs, she is a casual player, classically trained but plays contemporary.

I thought yamaha at first as they make great budget guitars, but Spruce tops.

I like the TAKAMINE GD11MCENS, its all Mahogany. Reminds me of a cole clark with the darker toned woods (is it bunya...)

But she would prefer a small body.... tough ask.

See if Walden do anything in a comfortable size. They make really good guitars for not a lot of money.

A friend of mine had a Loar of some description that was small and awesome, and a lot of guys do parlor style guitars.

And there's always the Mini Martin or Baby Taylor, but I'm not up on their construction.

How about a 00 size Sigma?
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Does she not want a spruce top? It is probably the best all round choice. The Taylor GS minis are great. Smaller, yet really well made. The all mahogany one is, I think, the best of the bunch and also the cheapest.

No Id say Mahogany all round, it has more mid range

Grand Auditorium cutaway is what she is after. The Takamine range has a nice tone. But is hard to find the right size in NZ.

Will catch up on other replies too, thanks mate.

Grand Auditorium cutaway is very similar in look, you have that smaller upper belly. Cheers I will check them out.

Yep they do a Spruce top but yet to find a mahogany cutaway. It might end up resorting to importing the Takamine Im after.

Edit: Here is a beautiful example sappele and thick cedar top, mahogany neck https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail ... ural-satin

But you can get a much cheaper version in ALL mahogany for $600nz.......

So any other grand auditorium cutaways in mahogany is what Im after, I may settle for the Takamine, under rated company.

Before I bought my Taylor I had been very impressed by a Walden at that type of price point (but going back a bit now). They seemed to have the usual variety of body size/shapes

Yep, they are goodies. I found a Grand Audo cutaway but is a spruce top. I may look at Cole Clark as I know they make the tone Im after but prob 2.5x the Takamine price......

I do wonder about a company that has several videos of the instrument being built but none of it being played.
