If that's the case, it sounds like the Engl and Mesa engineers went to the same school of amp design.

My brother has a Powerball 2. He bought it after hearing The Devil You Know - Heaven and Hell/Black Sabbath album that Iommi used on it. It's a bit like the Diezel VH4, channel wise (clean, crunch, high gain, even more). The clean is really compressed, in a good way. Definitely worthy of more than being pigeonholed as a "metal amp".

No experience with any others.

I'm impressed Music Planet has started stocking them. We need more higher end gear selection in NZ.

Engl are almost impossible to repair because the stacked PCBs make them nightmarish.
I won't touch them and I don't think Clarry will either.

I have a powerball, I like it.
The pcbs in it are fine to deal with, they're just installed component side down which means pulling the whole thing up to do anything, but that's only 20 minutes work. Still easier than a mesa haha

Is the Powerball a Fireball with more features or are they voiced differently? Fireball sounds awesome on tone demos etc I've heard but shares an eq section over both channels etc. Can't find as much info on the Poweball

Visually they are similar but the powerball is a different circuit / voiced different.
The powerball was one of the amps of the era, but doesnt get much hype nowadays.

Fun fact, all the Engl amps are based on the topology of the mesa mark IIc+. Obviously completely revoiced...

Ah awesome! Thanks for clearing that up for me. Will look more at a Fireball then.

Just from what i can see online, I think Engl do a range of both 60 and 100 watt versions of alot their different models. They even have a 60 and 120 watt version of the Savage

Yesterday, the Guitar Amps section of TradeMe included an advertisement for Engel Fires. The Engel Fire looked a lot like a burning amplifier. I was confused and distressed.
