Best way to courier/ship a guitar with no case in NZ?

Post by Gitar »

I have an Ibanez I need to send, but I have no case and the softcase I have is like zero protection. I thought about bubble wrapping it then puttnng it in the non padded case, would need protection for the headstock and the neck joint. But just dont know if thats the safest way. People are sending them all the time on trademe so clearly it is done often.

Ive never sent without a case before.

Get a box from your local guitar shop. Or make your own.

Is it a bolt-on neck? If yes, it might be worth shipping it in two pieces. Much harder to break once the neck is off.

Get the person who bought it to buy a case from Artist and send it direct to you

See if you can get a guitar box from your local music store and ship in that? Seems to be a common suggestion when this comes up.

Its not actually mine, trying to help a friend who sold it on trademe. He bought it from Rockshop, surely Rockshop would have hundreds of the boxes these come in? Then just wrap it in bubble wrap and put a solid amount of newspaper under the headstock and especially the neck joint. He wont want to send it in 2 pieces due to the Floyd Rose etc.

This. Buy a set of strings, or a lead, or something you probably need anyway. Then ask if they've got any spare.

Not suggesting you do this, but I wonder if you put a guitar in a clear plastic bag would it be treated with care since they could clearly see that it's fragile.

Yeah, I've had a couple of items sent without significant package which surprisingly arrived in perfect shape. At the time i attributed it to caution induced by awareness of the items vulnerabilities. Should it get damaged though you'd be fucked courtesy of couriers small print disclaimers.

If its insured, it really should be treated like the Bledisloe Cup lol.

Im thinking if you put some rolled up bubble wrap under the headstock and the neck join, then just put some paper between the strings and the body etc, then just wrap it in bubble wrap. They would clearly see what it is and if it has handle with care on it and its insured, hopefully that means F their fine print bahaha.

Still, if he can get a box that matches what the guitar came in, surely they are shaped correctly, I forget how boxed guitars come.... lol

Cheers all.

Artist ship their cases in cardboard boxes which, funnily enough, are the perfect size to ship a guitar in. I'm keeping one in the garage just in case. Stick a load of bubblewrap in around it, sorted!
