Gibson Les Paul Studio - Are the finish and neck joint OK?

Post by AiRdAd »

Hey Guys,

Is the neck joint OK? It looks to have had a big knock at the neck joint, but I cant tell if it's something serious or cosmetic.

Do you know what causes the finish on the neck to peel off, like it is in the photo?

Thanks :-)

The areas of damage at least don't look like the normal areas you get neck/headstock breaks on a LP. Could the area at the back of the neck be from a player using a chunky thumb ring? At least that would be superficial.

Neck joint has lost its original strength I'd say. Like you state, it has suffered from some nasty impact.

Neck finish been exposed to something sharp in the same place over multiple times. May have rested or hung into an abrasive stand? Appears to be superficial.
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

The input jack has also been pushed in, I guess it's been dropped and weakened the neck join.

Thanks guys - It's definitely had a big knock eh.

Jay, do you think that it would it be a hard/expensive fix to sort the neck joint out?

This is the guitar here. it's a good price, but just nervous about the neck joint. I have got a set of pickups that I can put in it and I think I have got a wiring harness to put in it too.

I bought it, but just organising with the seller if we'll go ahead with the sale. We weren't sure about the situation with the neck joint.

You need side on photos. If the crack looks the same right up the side, run.

Or offer $400

I agree, I've sent Grant a couple of texts, but haven't heard back, so I'm assuming he's busy :-)

From someone who bought a dodgy neck LP this year on TM and spent $900 getting it repaired! I’d say try and get some more pics to make a proper educated decision.
