No issues with your end BG, you were just the courier essentially.
I don’t even think the girl selling probably realised it had an issue either so it’s just a bit of a crappy situation.
I’ve said a few times I’d never buy another guitar without viewing in person but got carried away on this one.
Lesson learnt I think. Expensive lesson!

I bought a 70s SG with a similar issue. So much tension on the truss rod it'd started to compress the wood and had a second washer added.

My take on this, sorry Reg, is that you were given the opportunity to exercise due diligence on a clearly stated as-is sale but chose not to. I think it's all on you, sorry. He might well have been pleading ignorance but we all know to take that as a red flag.

Would they take it back for the price paid?

Otherwise if you're not happy with it and don't want to put the money in, sell it on for the same price but with an honest description of the condition? A luthier/tech might it for themselves. I don't think any legal course of action against the seller will bear any fruit.

Sorry to read about this Reg, I’m probably with the others but all being fair it should fall in your favour. So the whole thing sucks, feel for you. I don’t know if I’d bother getting the repair work done, I’d probably consider just flipping it for what it is and cut your losses

You’d think how it was a much loved guitar - loved enough to be given a name that you’d at least know how it’s spelled

I swaying towards the cheaper repair and either keeping or selling it for what I can get, most likely a significant loss!
Anyone want to start bids on it un-repaired?

Glynn did the repair, Peter Stephen said the repair looked all good and the bowed neck doesn’t seem to be caused by the repair. So it’s most likely a seperate issue.

I must keep in mind Peter Stephen is one of the more expensive options around at $90 + an hour but considered one of the best, it may be less if I went elsewhere.

I'd put a washer on myself, Glynn is solid.

Unfortunately there was already a washer in place, so
Someone has realised it needed extra adjustment previously. the original washer has sunk into the wood a fair bit so I’m thinking the repair option to rebuild that section might be enough to fix the issue.
He said the truss Rod looked kinda low in the grove from
Factory which would limit its useful range and I’m guessing that’s why he said he couldn’t be sure of a fix without removing the fretboard to get to the bottom (or bottom of the truss Rod slot) of the problem.

FYI this sets out the state of the law in NZ in plain terms
https://www.consumerprotection.govt.nz/ ... and-goods/

You would have to establish you were misled or deceived. On the balance I don't see anything from the seller that would support a successful claim to that.

Yea I think overwhelming message I’m
Getting is I should have done due diligence and have no legs to stand on in this case. I think it’s game over and try to either recoup some costs or spend the money to repair and make the guitar a keeper instead.
At least in this thread I’m learning my rights as a seller, seems as though anything S/H is essentially buyer beware

Contemplating that option but I’d guess I’d be loosing a significant amount. What’s it worth un-repaired?
