Re: The Acoustic Thread
Looks lovely, Bruce.
Big fan of walnut on acoustics. Not only does it look beautiful, it sounds lovely. All the sweetness of koa without the complete lower-midrange suck-out that ruins koa for me.

Re: The Acoustic Thread
I've just put a set of 13-56 strings on a guitar. I never thought I'd do that again!

Re: The Acoustic Thread
I was about to say "Yikes!" but then, I assume this went on the GS Mini, with shorter scale?

Agreed. I've long had a love of korina for electrics...no, I can't explain it..... and now I'm feeling the same way about walnut for acoustics. It doesn't hurt to have a walnut Lowden as a starting point though.

Re: The Acoustic Thread
I went 'Yikes' anyway when I saw Taylor's recommendation but yeah; shorter scale.
As a youngster I used 13-56 on my D28 but I'm much more feeble nowdays.

NGD.
I shouldn't be allowed out without proper supervision....![]()
I have huge respect for my GS-7 Taylor. Among other talents, it inspired Taylor's best selling product; the GS Mini so getting one was probably inevitable. It's got a pretty Walnut back as well.
First impression is it'll be a perfect go anywhere knockabout guitar; exactly what it says on the tin.

Well, after a passing comment on the dude wanting acoustic advice thread a while back and you mentioned Simon & Patrick guitars, I got interested in one that came up for sale locally.
It’s a limited run, must be 10-15 years old, small body, compared to me anyway, cutaway, think it’s a Spruce top, can’t remember neck and fretboard, but anyway, nice acoustic!
has a fairly regular acoustic tone with 11s on it, action is very flat so will probably raise it a little, haven’t heard it plugged in yet, but no complaints acoustically, which is how it’s designed…
Nice and light, thin wood everywhere, just feels playable…

Re: The Acoustic Thread
I really rate S&P guitars. They do everything you expect and need; play well, sound good. If you've not played premium acoustics, you'll never miss the magic that costs 10 times more and 15 years of playing to access.
Good score!

Re: The Acoustic Thread
Was thinking it might be fun to pickup a cheap acoustic beater and convert it to be a resonator...

Re: The Acoustic Thread
My trusty old Washburn 12 string-strung-as-a-6-string looks like it's about to suffer the last headstock break that it can take. Been glued up too many times.
So I guess I'm on the lookout for something cheap and cheerful, budget is tight these days: about $500. Reckon I'll take a look at the Seagull on trade me, and there's a decent looking Walden on marketplace.
I miss my Larivee D03
should have kept that one.

Re: The Acoustic Thread
You just reminded me I still have mine, but has been in its case for bloody ages. It's just a bit big in this house.

Re: The Acoustic Thread
I think I found the same thing. I don't think I'd get it out much right now anyway with a toddler bashing around the house! I have a cheap nylon string Ibanez that I give zero effs about which is getting all the play time these days.

I do have a Fender CD60 for sale for $250. It's black. "This heavy-duty dreadnought features a laminated spruce top, laminated mahogany back and sides, a comfortable "C" profile, and a smooth walnut fingerboard with rolled edges." It really sounds good this one. $500 new.StratMatt wrote: ↑Mon Mar 24, 2025 4:54 pm My trusty old Washburn 12 string-strung-as-a-6-string looks like it's about to suffer the last headstock break that it can take. Re: The Acoustic Thread
Yours is the other one on my shortlist. We would have to ship it up to Auckland and I'm not sure I trust couriers enough to get an acoustic to me in one pieceWellyBlues wrote: ↑Mon Mar 24, 2025 6:50 pmI do have a Fender CD60 for sale for $250. Re: The Acoustic Thread
Yup, I agree. These days the Breedlove sits out on the rack, within easy reach, for that reason. I don't have the need for volume to compete with a bunch of other instruments. Even then, the Breedlove surprisingly projects volume very well.
Still, the D03 is my preferred strumming guitar but... ya know... compromises...
