Monarch Pedals Sundog Overdrive

Post by Zaulkin »

Hey folks,

Here's the last of the three pedals I borrowed recently from Tez. This one's a dual footswitch overdrive with a pretty wild EQ. Like with all of Tez's pedals, I like to use the word 'versatile'. The SAG control on this one is very subtle but it does have a little something going when you turn it to the right.

I like that it can do pretty low gain stuff as well as chewy grind and a bit of tight chunk.

Another pretty graphic too. Demo below:

Nice, for some reason the word strident comes to mind listening to that. Seems like it'd be great for playing Oasis riffs through. Sick beard as usual.
Loving it so far

Probably just my obnoxious playing. I think that's one of the downsides of the looper in demos. You're stuck with whatever dynamics you decided to use in that moment.

What do we think about using a looper for demos?

If you were looking to buy a pedal, would you want to see/hear it being tweaked?

It certainly makes my life easier but I'm wondering if it's a bit monotonous. Maybe it IS better to demonstrate a pedals strengths rather than tweak through? But saying that everyone is listening for something different.

The ideal solution is "do both" but that's not practical in most instances and doubles the time spent doing a demo.

I personally feel a playthrough with stops for adjustments is the best way to demonstrate what a pedal does due to dynamics and the fact that a looper will never return 100% of what's put in to it, there's always degradation. But, it's more work for the person doing it and therein lies the rub.

As a general overview a looper is fine, but deep dive requires a mic'd cab, a play, a twiddle, a play, a twiddle, and so on.

Having said all that, you're doing a great job either way man. Your playing is solid and you're definitely growing into the role of presenting to camera which is really great to see.

You need a partner in crime to twiddle the knobs while you play. Like the Andertons guys, only without the annoying banter.
