Both my handmade amps were cheap. No brand tax.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

When I rocked-up to that open-night a few days ago the guitarist had a bigish Blackstar combo (212 I expect) and a nondescript US Fender, two-point trem Strat. Utterly unremarkable. Sounded bloody great...

For this challenge we need someone to give us each $1000 to go buy a guitar and an amp, and then we have to play a gig with them.
Without that, this is just words on a page.

Well, it'd be a Katana and PRS SE I guess. Would you pick up that pair for $1k?

Secondhand you should be able to! Although prices have gone crazy…

Yeah my MikeC/BG Deluxe is fantastic value, the little MPC Princeton is also great. The others are vintage so a little different.

Yes I would play a cheap amp, that's all I've ever known. I was well happy with the Bog Spider hd and I'm happy in Katana land. Also the Blackheart I had was a great wee amp too.

I used to often gig an Epiphone Dot around Christchurch. I think it initially cost me about $600. Then I put in Seymour Duncan pickups, added a Bigsby, new wiring harness, different pickguard, Grover tuners and a nicer looking n.o.s headstock veneer. So.... not really cheap at all.

The best cheap guitar of the last decade has been an SX Tele with decent hardware and electrics.

About a ratio of 3:1 in expenditure amps/guitars here.
There's a place of about $800 - $900 to get anything any good. Start out with $200 shitter, it'll cost that 8 to 9 figure by time it's done, still the wood might not be good.
No holds barred on slide guitars, seems the shittier the more character.

Was thinking about Seasick Steve and his hubcap guitar. When his wife saw it she apparently said: "That thing's going to make you famous".calling card wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 8:31 am About a ratio of 3:1 in expenditure amps/guitars here.
