Gretsch Love

Post by GrantB »

I went through some strong Gretsch love over the last 17 years. I wanted hum buckers but with hollow vibes and crunchy bright, and a wobble knob. I have had a few and will post photos as I find them. Please also do the same. Let's show our Gretschs!

My only one currently - 1969 Duo Jet 6128T. Gifted to the original owner from Fred Gretsch himself.

At one point I had 3 different iterations of the 6120 ranging from 1967 to 1972 (l-r 1972, 1967, 1970)

Oooooh love me some Gretsch.

I'll share a story, and of course some pics.

I bought a beautiful blue burst 6120 about 6 years ago. I purchased new from a store in the states and shipped it over. It arrived safe and sound, I brought the strings up to tension, had a quick play, put it back in its case. Came back to It an hour or two later and the headstock had snapped inside the case. Unsure if there was a hairline fracture or something that wasn't visible, or something to do with humidity/temp change, but I was devastated. As the guitar arrived safe and sound the shop didn't want too much to do with it.

Well I was lamenting my poor luck on the Gretsch forums and the head of marketing for Gretsch (or some kind of similar role), Joe Carducci, read it and reached out to me saying he wanted to send a new one. Didn't need to see the old one first to verify it wasn't my fault, just sent me a new guitar and paid for me to return the old one.

I became a very loyal Gretsch fan from that day onwards. I also love the sound of a big chimey filtertron hollow body, and am very partial to falcons. Some pics to follow!

Banned.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Nice - I’ve had one of these…the Nitro DSV version. Will find photos. Dynas are cool but have a narrow application in my experience.

I’ve had every major food group of guitar apart from a Gretsch, and for no good reason…have had a number of TV Jones-fitted Teles that I loved. And I’ve always loved the look of Falcons, but I guess visually I’ve always favoured the ES335 in that kinda footprint size…
May revisit…

Man you need a Gretsch in your life. I reckon a Tele and a Gretsch would do me, maybe something with humbuckers too.

I've got the Suhr T and S, so that's my Tele and Strat sorted. The ES-335 is a stayer too, everything else is malleable!
