Re: Music Planet stocking Chapman Guitars!
I had a fang on a couple Chapmans a few years ago.
They both had an incredibly weird thing where on a completely clean sound, they sounded BAD - like for me, unusable. Honky, dark, completely lacking in airiness or just about anything pleasant. However, with some distortion, they were fucking killer. Very tight for power chords and sustain for DaYZ.
I imagine that you could sort the clean sound out with something like a modelling amp where you could add heavy EQ, compression, reverb, etc to try pull some tone of out of the thing. I've never in my life played a guitar that was quite so polarising. if your vibe is smooth legato leads and tight drop-d rhythm stuff, I'd totally recommend trying one.

So basically everything you need and nothing you don't.rickenbackerkid wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 4:04 pm I had a fang on a couple Chapmans a few years ago.

The older I get, the more disappointed in myself I become.

I've had two ML3 Moderns - the original, thicker bodied one, and the newer one with a slimmer, lighter form. The thicker one sounded better and had some rather great cleans from memory, even on my Splawn, which has a passable clean sound at best.rickenbackerkid wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 4:04 pm I had a fang on a couple Chapmans a few years ago.

That being said, I didn't buy them for clean tones

It's quite niche, but check out this guy Eric Johnson on Spotify. He uses a 'clean tone' quite well, I think it's some kind of a pedal? Seems to work best for players 50+ years oldDanger Mouse wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 4:32 pm Yes struggling to understand the issue, what is this clean sound you talk about?

Clean tones are really only there to remind you you forgot to turn your amp up.rickenbackerkid wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 8:52 pmIt's quite niche, but check out this guy Eric Johnson on Spotify.
