I think different guitars can put you in a different genre space. Horses for courses I guess. LP has a definite stage thud.

Can't tell the difference, too much confusion in the midrange. Is the amp a Classic 50?

in light of the original post, having to choose which guitar is what from a demo doesn't mean a thing!
A tele & strat have distinctive sounds but if you heard a song by an unknown group using humbucker guitars & you could not see the guitars, then I don't think that you could tell what was being used.
Epiphone Riviera P93 & EJ200CE, Hagstrom Viking Bass, Doubleneck bass/guitar.
Rivera Clubster 45, Carvin AG100D, Ashton BSK158.

I know one thing, an early 3 ply 335 sounds different from the next generation. And, an old 4 ply top with PAF's sounds different to modern re-issues of the same (-ish) spec.

So, and old and a new 335 can indeed sound quite different. Let alone semi hollow vs solid.

Now, what about al old 335 and an old Les Paul. Listen to some old Eric Clapton when he could actually play...like the BBC sessions. He's on a 335. You can tell he's playing a 335. It feeds back, it has a hollow honk. Trouble is, he didn't switch to a LP for us to hear the difference.....

Bottom line is, every single of us deserves to find out ourselves, so I encourage you to all buy a 335 and a Les Paul and feed back your experiences.

Tell you what, I've just been watching demos of the Chris Cornell signature 335 and it definately sounds different to a Les Paul. To be fair, it also sounds like the coolest guitar EVER!!!!

Theres a live recording of clapton on jools holland playing 'reconsider baby', you can tell straight away thats a 335.

To be fair a lot of that could be because finger picking... but this was always my goto for the 335 tone

I think you're finger picking observation is very valid. I rarely use a pick anymore and when I pick one up it sounds sterile by comparison with what comes out using just fingers. My thumb definitely out honks a pick
