I was just jiving man...and I’ve not got many duplicates any more. Apart from SGs. We all need many SGs.

How about this to stir debate...
In this clip I play four guitars. First clean on the neck and then dirty on the bridge.
The four guitars consist of three historic LPs (custombuckers, seth lovers and antiquities), fourth being a Japanese Tokai with BK Mules. No post processing, sound straight from a deluxe reverb and SM57. (Yes one of the guitars is Dharmajesters old R8)

I could hear a slight difference between each guitar, but so subtle and nothing that made me say 'aha, that's the semi hollow!' Would be interested in others thoughts on Jack's clip here. 4 guitars clean, same 4 guitars distorted. 3 LPs, 1 335.Grayson314 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 12:54 pm How about this to stir debate...

Whatever they are, the third was my favourite clean and the fourth with some dirt. Did you have that DR cranked at the end?Grayson314 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 12:54 pm How about this to stir debate...

Hard to pick which was which but there are differences. I thought the first one might be the 335 as it sounded airier on the clean sound, but the 4th one was similar. The third one was darker than the others.
So, what's what?
So, what's what?

I also liked the 3rd one clean and thought that might be the 335. But I don't know cos Jack won't tell me until more people have guessed.

What I learned from all this is find a guitar you like and just play the damn thing.
Yeah; I'm no fun.
Yeah; I'm no fun.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Re: Les Paul v 335 - can you really hear the difference?
This thread was really in response to this video:
The main reasoning for Rhett's view that the 335 is the greatest guitar ever appears to be 'my mum and dad bought me one and it's the bestest most versatile guitar in the whole wide werwd'.
I can understand various reasons why you might prefer a 335 to a LP or vice versa. I can understand that you may be able to hear a 'slight' difference. I just struggle to see how a 335 is 'more versatile' (or better) than any other 2 humbucker Gibson style guitar. While there might be some extremely subtle differences, I can't see that those differences would be enough to make the guitar more suitable for certain styles of music than the other.
It's more a curiosity than an opinion, as I've never owned either a 335 or a proper Les Paul. I have owned 2 semi hollows, a Reverend Club King and a Gretsch centreblock, and I struggled to hear anything 'hollow' about them plugged in. As opposed to a true hollowbody where I can definitely hear an obvious difference.
