If you use a 4 pole 5 way switch (aka super switch), you can use a 500K pot with a 470k parallel resistor that gets selected when the single coils are active. So the humbucker sees 500k and the singles see 250. Pretty handy.

HSS is a great versatile option for when you just want to take one guitar that can cover just about anything. I recommend them to a lot of first time electric guitar buyers who are still figuring out what they like and don't like. Nowadays I tend to go more towards guitars that specialize in a certain type of sound and do it really well, but I still have my Reverend Double Agent which is also a great 'do all' guitar.
