New Pickup Day
I've had this Malmsteen strat for a while now. In a past life it was painted by Molly in nitro. The guitar looks wicked and has got the MOST AMAZING neck on it. I've got another fender scalloped strat neck that I love, but this one just feels great. I'm totally overloaded with strats as I've got two normal ones and two super strats. I was struggling with keeping this one. I wanted to keep just the neck and sell the body etc, but I would lose money doing that. I decided to try a humbucker in the bridge position, but the body wasn't routed for one, so was after a single coil sized one. Willow13 kindly gave me one to put in it, and I finally got it in there. I haven't tried it, but will do so this afternoon.
I just wanted to say a huge thanks to Dave for giving it to me - what a GC!

Before anyone shouts dibs, Danny and I have already come to terms regarding this guitar should he ever part with it.

Is that a Lil 59?
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Here's one I did earlier. Danny, you might like this configuration.

Re: New Pickup Day
Looks great Danny, I'm it a similar position, I can't justify owning two strats that are basically the same, but they are both keepers so I decided to put a humbucker in the bridge of my partscaster. I used to have a lil 59 but it was so long ago I can't remember if I liked it or not, so I got myself a Thornbucker plus. Still have to poke holes into the pickguard.

Re: New Pickup Day
very cool. I have a JB jr on my desk waiting to go into my Squier. I figure with the right wiring (it needs to coil split in position 2!) it will make a awesome covers band guitar.
Has anyone compared the JB jr and the lil 59? I've had a lil 59 before and remember it being too honky for my tastes. But it could also have been how it was wired I guess

Re: New Pickup Day
IIRC, the JB jr is hotter than the little 59. Use in bridge for more. My PRS SE in the photo had two little 59s and a Duckbucker.rickenbackerkid wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 10:06 pm very cool.
